Myth-Weavers Help

Welcome to Myth-Weavers

Myth-Weavers is a play-by-post tabletop RPG community built for people who love the game but can't always make it to the table. Whether scheduling is a nightmare, face-to-face time is scarce, or you just genuinely love the written format, then this is the place for you.

This guide covers the first five steps to get you started. Each step links to a deeper guide if you want detail; if you don't, you can be game-ready in under thirty minutes.

What is play-by-post?

Play-by-post (PBP) is a tabletop RPG played on a forum instead of around a tabletop. The Game Master writes scenes, players reply as their characters, and dice are rolled in-line. Every game action is taken on a forum, and character actions are in posts. The story unfolds across days and weeks instead of hours, which means it fits around real life and scheduling constraints. That might mean a daily posting rate for some groups, and a weekly one for others. Games move at the pace the group sets.

If you've never played a tabletop RPG before, you're still welcome here! Many PBP games are explicitly beginner-friendly, and the written format gives you time to think about your next step or even ask a rule question.

1. Create your account

Username, email, password. Your username is what other players see on every post you write, so choose this carefully. See Creating Your Account for the full walk-through, including avatars and two-factor authentication.

2. Set up your profile

Your profile is your elevator pitch to get into games. An avatar, a couple of sentences in your About Me, and you're already easier for a GM to say yes to. Account & Profile Setup covers it.

3. Find a game

The Game Directory lists every game on the site that's accepting players, filterable by system and genre. The Recruitment Advertisements are GMs actively pitching for players right now, this is where you want to go if you'd like to find a game to play in. See Finding and Joining a Game.

When you find one you like, click Apply Now. THe application process is the way for GMs to find a compatible group of players, so don't be afraid to ask questions and show your personal style. Do be sure to follow any of the GM's specific requirements – that can be make all the difference.

4. Get the lay of the land

Once you're in a game, the forum interface is where your games will appear. Forums, Topics, and Posting is the orientation; The Post Editor covers everything you can put in a post — rich text, dice, images, hidden GM-only whispers, the works.

Set aside fifteen minutes for both and you'll have a solid feel for everything before your first session.

5. Tune your notifications

Myth-Weavers will tell you when someone replies to your posts, mentions you, or quotes you. Whether that arrives via in-app badge, browser push, or email digest is up to you, see Notifications.

It is worth doing this on day one, before you're subscribed to twelve topics across three games and the inbox flood begins.
