Myth-Weavers Help

Welcome to Myth-Weavers

Myth-Weavers is a play-by-post tabletop role-playing game community. If you've ever wanted to roll initiative without scheduling a video call, run a years-long campaign that survives life's chaos, or find people who'll read your character's twelve-paragraph monologue with actual interest — you're in the right place.

This guide walks you through the first five things to do. Each step links to a deeper guide if you want detail; if you don't, you can be playing in under thirty minutes.

What is play-by-post?

Play-by-post (PBP) is a tabletop RPG played on a forum instead of around a tabletop. The Game Master writes scenes, players reply as their characters, dice are rolled in-line, and the story unfolds at the pace real life allows — anywhere from "several posts a day" to "weekly, with patience." A typical PBP campaign runs for months or years. Some on Myth-Weavers have been running since the early 2000s.

If you've never played a tabletop RPG before, that's fine — many PBP games are explicitly beginner-friendly, and the written format gives you time to think before you act.

1. Create your account

Username, email, password. Your username is what other players see on every post you write — pick with that in mind. See Creating Your Account for the full walk-through, including avatars and two-factor authentication.

2. Set up your profile

Your profile is your handshake. An avatar, a couple of sentences in your About Me, and you're already easier for a GM to say yes to. Account & Profile Setup covers it.

3. Find a game

The Game Directory lists every game on the site that's accepting players, filterable by system and genre. The Recruitment Advertisements are GMs actively pitching for players right now — the most efficient way to land somewhere good. See Finding and Joining a Game.

When you find one you like, click Apply Now. Most GMs want to see a character concept and a sense of who you are; the application thread is a conversation, not a job interview.

4. Get the lay of the land

Once you're in a game, the forum interface is where you'll spend your time. Forums, Topics, and Posting is the orientation; The Post Editor covers everything you can put in a post — rich text, dice, images, hidden GM-only whispers, the works.

A quick read of both — fifteen minutes — saves a lot of "where do I click for that?" later.

5. Tune your notifications

Myth-Weavers will tell you when someone replies to your posts, mentions you, or quotes you. Whether that arrives via in-app badge, browser push, or email digest is up to you — see Notifications.

Worth doing on day one, before you're subscribed to twelve topics across three games and the inbox flood begins.
